Monitoring points in CIMScan are organized into "Groups." In a typical energy monitoring appliction, each Group would represent a building. Consider that you are monitoring the residence halls on a college campus. You log onto CIMScan and are presented with a Multiple Group Status page containing the current status of all of the buildings being monitored. A temperature "out of spec" alarm has been detected at Jones Dorm [1]. You select Jones Dorm [2] and its Group Status page is displayed.

Select the temperature monitoring point [3] producing the alarm and display a trend chart [4] showing the temperature over time. You can easily zoom and pan the chart to any time period you wish.
The average consumption rate and the peaks (max & min) along with the accumulated total for every monitoring point is collected every hour and stored in the database. This information can be easily recalled and analyzed clicking on the Reports menu on the main menu bar and selecting the "Statistics Reports."

Click "Submit" to display the following tabbed spreadsheet containing the summary for each point over the entire period.

The spreadsheet can be printed to a local printer at any time or exported to a text or CSV file that can be imported into Excel.
Repeat the following steps to view other information contained in history.
Peak Electric Power Consumption for Building XYZ and the time it occurred
- Select Building XYZ
- Select “Electric Power”
- Specify/Select the time period
- Select "Summary Only"
- Click “Submit”
Average Steam Consumption for Building XYZ by day over the last 30 days
- Select Building XYZ
- Select “Steam”
- Specify the last 30 days for the time period
- Select "by Day" (or by Hour, Week or Month)
- Click “Generate”
The Average Consumption, the Peak Consumption (Maximum and Minimum and date/time they occurred), and the Total Steam Consumed for the period will be displayed in a spreadsheet which could be printed or exported to Excel.
Display a Plot of Power, Steam, Chilled Water, Cold Water and Hot Water Consumption by Day for the last 3 years
Click on the “Reports” menu and select the “Statistics” report
- Select Building XYZ
- Select the Monitoring Points (Power, Steam, Chilled Water, Cold Water, and Hot Water)
- Specify the last 3 years for the time period
- Select "by Day"
- Click “Generate”
This will generate a tabbed spreadsheet similar to the one shown above. Click on the "Electricity" row to select it and then click on the "Chart" tab to show the Electricity Consumption if chart form.

- The average rate of consumption is plotted in yellow on the upper trace. The minimum and maximum detected during the day (in this case) is shown as a vertical line.

- Statistics are gathered by hour, so a day would have 24 samples. The solid box in the middle shows the variation of these measurements as one standard deviation (31% of the samples) on either side of the mean (average).
- The total consumption is shown on the lower chart.
- The chart at the very bottom is the “Pilot” chart and contains all the data from the period selected (the dataset).
- You can ZOOM the chart over the dataset by dragging the handles on either side of the window into the pilot chart. You can also click on the zoom buttons at the bottom of the chart to select a predefined period.
- You can PAN the chart by “grabbing” the center of the pilot chart window and dragging it left to or right with your mouse.
- You can “hover” your mouse cursor over either chart to display a small dot over the plotted values. The numeric values of the points will be displayed on the chart headings. The date (and time) that the data was collected will be displayed on the top right hand side of the upper chart.
To access the system, simply log onto the CIMScan server using a simple web browser and provide your user name and password. The current status page for all the groups to which you have been allowed access will be immediately displayed [1]. (A single group status page will be displayed if you only have access a single group. [2])

- The current values, alarm status, and time of the last update for all the monitoring points are available. You can select one or more points and generate a Trend Chart or Print a Report using the Actions dropdown list.
- You can see all the monitoring points in alarm by looking at the alarm list. You can acknowledge alarms by selecting the monitoring point from the list and clicking on “Acknowledge” in the Actions dropdown list.
- A page can be displayed containing the floor plan of the area being monitored with alarm indicators for each sensor.
- Users can click on the “Help” menu to download one of the user’s manuals in PDF format.
- Clicking on the “Reports” menu will allow you to select the type of report to print. This will display a form where you can specify the monitoring points to be included in the report as well as the starting and ending times.
The following built-in reports are provided with each CIMScan-server. Each report can be generated for a specific group over a user-selected period of time.
- Group Status Report
This report contains the general statistics (average (mean), maximum, minimum, and standard deviation) for each monitoring point along with a list of alarm conditions that were detected and their acknowledgments. Any user notes that were entered during the period of the report will be printed along with the name of the person entering the note and the time.
- Alarm History Report
This report contains a chronological list of alarms that were detected and when they were corrected.
- Measurement Data Log Report
This report contains a tabular list of all the measurements that were recorded for the specified monitoring point to points and the time that the measurement was taken.
- User Notes Report
This report contains all of the user notes that were entered for the selected monitoring points during the reporting period.
- Trend Report
This report contains a plot of the selected measurement points over the period of time of the report. A user can zoom an pan the chart to focus on the desired event.
- Sensor Usage Report
This report contains a listing of the sensor usage
- Audit Trail Report
This report contains a chronological list of settings changes that could affect the data gathering and storage as well as the alarm detection and alerting.
- Statistics Summary Report
This report contains a summary of the hourly statistics gathered for each monitoring point.
- Statistics Detail Report
This report contains a summary of the hourly statistics over the period of the report as well as a tabular listing of the entries summarized by hour, day, week, or month. The report also contains a trend plot of the latter that can be zoomed and panned to focus on a specific event.
- Alarm Limits Change Report
This report lists all of the alarm and warning limits made to the selected monitoring points during the reporting period.
Users can easily generate their own custom reports using any one of the third party report generators available today.
